React Native audit · Upgrade rescue

React Native App Audit & Upgrade Rescue

For teams stuck on an old React Native version, fighting build failures, shipping performance regressions, or carrying release risk they can't quantify. A focused technical review that ends with a prioritized, actionable roadmap — not a slide deck.

Who this is for

If any of this sounds familiar, an audit will pay for itself.

  • Stuck on an old React Native version, afraid to touch the upgrade
  • Builds failing after an Xcode, Gradle, or SDK update
  • App Store or Play Store rejections you can't fully explain
  • Lists and screens that stutter under real data
  • Crashes or regressions that started after a React Native or native-module upgrade
  • Offline or sync bugs quietly eating support time

What actually gets examined

A technical review, not a checklist skim.

RN/Expo version delta

Distance from current to target version, and the upgrade path between them.

Native module compatibility

Turbo Modules, third-party libraries, and any custom native code (Swift/Kotlin).

Hermes vs. JSC

Engine choice, JS-thread bottlenecks, and where the frame budget is actually going.

Build & release pipeline

EAS Build/Fastlane, Gradle/Xcode configuration, and CI reliability.

Dependency upgrade path

Outdated, duplicate, and incompatible packages sitting between you and the upgrade.

Bundle size & cold start

What's shipping in the bundle, and what it costs on startup.

List virtualization

FlatList/FlashList configuration and render performance under real data volumes.

Offline & sync layer

Local storage, conflict resolution, and retry logic for offline-first flows.

Process

Week by week.

01

Free call

A 30-minute call where I review your app and name the top problems directly — no cost, no obligation to continue.

02

Week 1 — Audit

Codebase mapping and a stakeholder call, then an architecture review, dependency audit, and performance audit. Ends with a written report and a prioritized roadmap.

03

Weeks 2–7 — Implementation

The upgrade executed against the agreed roadmap, backend included, then a live walkthrough call to go through the finished work.

Deliverables

What you get in hand.

Written report

Every finding, ranked by risk and effort, in plain language and specifics.

Prioritized roadmap

What to fix first and why, so engineering time goes where it matters.

Live walkthrough call

Included from Implementation up — I walk you and your team through the finished work directly.

Upgrade execution

Implementation tier: the upgrade — backend included — gets built against the agreed roadmap, not billed by the hour.

Focused engagement

Start free, then pick how far to go.

No cost to start. From there: a paid Audit with the fee credited toward Implementation, a scoped Implementation to execute the fix, or Remediation for larger builds — scoped and quoted from what the audit finds.

Free first step

30-minute call, no cost

I look at your app and name the top problems directly on the call — no obligation to continue.

Audit

$3,500

1 week

A focused technical review that tells you exactly what's wrong and what to do about it. 100% prepaid, and credited in full toward Implementation if you move forward.

  • Architecture review
  • Performance trace
  • Upgrade path: RN/Expo version delta, native module compatibility, breaking changes
  • Prioritized, actionable roadmap

100% prepaid. The fee is credited in full toward Implementation if you proceed.

Recommended

Implementation

$6,500–$12,000

3–6 weeks

The upgrade, actually executed — client and backend, against the roadmap from the Audit.

  • Everything in the Audit
  • The upgrade implemented against the agreed roadmap
  • Backend changes included, not scoped out
  • Live walkthrough call to go through the finished work

Remediation

Scoped & quoted

By scope

For builds larger than Implementation covers. Scope and price are set from what the audit finds, not published upfront.

  • For work beyond the Implementation tier
  • Scope and price set from the audit findings
  • Quoted before any work starts

Proof

This is the work I do every day, not a service I bolted on.

FAQ

Questions worth answering upfront.

Is this for Expo (managed) or bare React Native apps?

Both. I audit Expo-managed, Expo bare/prebuild, and fully bare React Native projects, including apps that mix custom native code with third-party modules.

What if the audit uncovers more work than expected?

The Audit is fixed-price regardless of what's found — that's the point of doing the review first. Implementation is priced as a range ($6,500–$12,000) based on what the audit shows the work actually needs. Anything larger becomes Remediation, scoped and quoted separately before any of that work starts.

Do you need production access, or can this run against a clone?

A read-only clone of the repository and CI logs is enough for the Audit. I don't need production data access, and any credentials you do share stay scoped to what's necessary.

How is this different from just hiring a React Native contractor?

A contractor bills by the hour with no defined endpoint. This is a fixed-scope engagement that starts with a written diagnosis, so you know what's wrong and what it costs to fix before committing to implementation.

How fast can you start?

Typically within one to two weeks of confirming scope, depending on current engagements.

Is this a React Native app rescue, or only for apps that are already stable?

Both. Most engagements start as a React Native app rescue — an app stuck on an old version, failing a dependency upgrade, or crashing after one — but the same audit applies to a healthy app that just needs a planned React Native upgrade before it turns into an emergency.
